An aunt's clever birthday prank has delighted Reddit after she shared her "misunderstood" take on her nephew's request for a Nintendo Switch-themed cake.

Posting to the r/Baking subreddit, user u/PuzzleheadedOccasion uploaded photos of two cakes under the title: "My nephew asked for a switch cake for his birthday. Apparently I misunderstood the assignment. (Just kidding, had to prank the kid first.)"

Newsweek reached out to u/PuzzleheadedOccasion via direct message for comment. We could not verify the details of the case.

The first cake, covered in white icing, featured a realistic light switch in the middle and number "1" and "2" candles styled in the colors of Nintendo's Joy-Con controllers—a nod to her nephew's request.

But after the joke came the real showstopper: a full cake in the shape of a Nintendo Switch console, complete with Mario raising his fist on the screen. At the bottom, red and blue lettering read: "Happy level 12, Finn!"

The post has gone viral on Reddit, garnering 78,000 views and over 600 comments, where many users praised the baker's talent.

"It's a nice detail that the screws that hold the switch plate on are at different random angles. Good attention to detail, on both cakes!" one user wrote.

"You sneaky baker. I love this—it's brilliant. That cake looks so good! Flavors?" one commenter asked.

The original poster (OP) revealed that both creations were chocolate with vanilla icing. "I used scraps from the Nintendo Switch to make the light switch," she explained. "The light switch icing is dairy free because his sister is dairy sensitive."

"What a great way to incorporate the allergen free cake. Kids with allergies can have a tough time with stuff like this and this is so fun," another replied.

Another user joked: "First of all, you rocked both cakes!! 2nd... Neither of these are the switch I was thinking about, pleasantly surprised."

Laughing along, the aunt replied: "Lol! I thought about that too but I thought a light switch was more wholesome."

"Omggg this is hilarious!!! both look amazing hahah you killed it," another commented.

Many others were intrigued to find out what her nephew made of the double reveal.

The OP explained in one of her comments that he thanked her even though it wasn't the Nintendo Switch he had initially asked for.

"Then he had me hide the Nintendo switch so we could get his party guests too. Everyone had a blast," she wrote.

Many other users declared the OP "the best auntie" for her creativity.
