Stefon Diggs Linked to Two Struggling AFC Teams

Stefon Diggs’ tenure with the New England Patriots was rather short-lived. The former Minnesota Vikings star is back in free agency after his release earlier in the offseason, and there hasn’t been much buzz around him.

While a return to Foxborough might still be in the cards, Diggs is dealing with a scandal off the field, suffered a season-ending injury two years ago, and closed out the season on a negative note.

That’s why Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox believes he might have no choice but to sign with a non-contender. In his latest column, he chose the Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans as potential destinations:

“Diggs would be a sensible target for a team like Miami, which no longer has a No. 1 receiver to pair with new quarterback Malik Willis. His past experience with offensive coordinator Brian Daboll makes him an interesting option for the Tennessee Titans and second-year signal-caller Cam Ward,” Knox wrote.

Diggs is still a reliable pass catcher, even though he may not be much of a big-play specialist anymore. The Dolphins traded away Jaylen Waddle and don’t have many weapons for Malik Willis, and he’d be their undisputed No. 1 receiver. As for the Titans, they signed Wan’Dale Robinson, but his familiarity with Coach Daboll and their revamped roster could be a tempting option amid their free-agency spending spree.

As talented as he is, Diggs also comes with some baggage. He’s got a history of burning bridges with his former teams, and contenders may not want that type of distraction, especially now that he’s at this point in his career.

That said, he can still be a solid pickup on a one-year “prove it” deal or for teams that don’t need him to do all of the heavy lifting, provided the money also makes sense.
