The Witcher 3, which arguably stands the test of time as one of the best RPGs ever created over a decade on from its 2015 release, is indeed getting a new DLC.
This big news follows months of rumors surrounding potential new Witcher 3 DLC, as CD Projekt Red confirms that it's co-developing the expansion with Fool's Theory – a studio the team has closely worked with in the past on The Witcher 3 and other projects.
It'll feature our first big return to Geralt's adventures since Blood and Wine in 2016, making this quite the monumental moment for us Witcher stans.
Dubbed Songs of the Past, the new Witcher 3 DLC is set to release sometime this year with a 2027 launch time – but no specific date just yet. For now, it'll come to PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
Notably, there's no word on any Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 version... or Songs of the Past's future arrival on older consoles, like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
There's no telling what direction it will take just yet, as CD Projekt Red hasn't given us any more information on Sons of the Past's actual content. The name is interesting, however, and it does beg the question – will it potentially center around some sort of prequel tale, as many of Ciri's early gameplay bits do?
Or, could it possibly somehow feed into The Witcher 4 as we approach its own release? Honestly, I'm not sure. What we do know is that Songs of the Past will follow an update to the base game itself.
As CD Projekt Red writes in a new online post, "With new content coming to the game, we also need to update our system requirements to ensure smooth performance and compatibility going forward. These requirements will become effective starting from the next update."
Boy, are these next couple of years shaping up to be something for one of the best Witcher games of all time, eh? Fingers crossed, we learn more about the DLC soon.
