Two people have died after an explosion at a house in Bristol this morning, according to Avon and Somerset Police.

Police have declared a major incident following the blast in the north-east of the city at around 6.30am.

The cause is being treated as suspicious, the force said.

However, officers are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the explosion and it is not being treated as a suspected terror attack.

The families of the two adults killed have been informed.

Residents living in an area cordoned off by police are being evacuated to a temporary rest centre.

It is not believed the explosion at Sterncourt Road caused significant damage to any other properties.

Police said they are carrying out an investigation in Speedwell, another part of the city, which they believe is connected to the incident.

The public have been advised to avoid the area around Sterncourt Road as emergency services continue their response.
